Thanking my peers!

Firstly I would like to begin with thanking Nathan and Nour for their comments and for marking my blog. I appreciate their feedback even though I might not have agreed with all of it. I respect their opinions and thank them for being honest. It was addressed by Nathan Fry that my referencing is not published according to the APA 6th referencing guidelines so I went back and fixed as much as I could and I appreciate his insight, I felt that he was a bit harsh as he said not everything in my blogs have been addressed even though I felt that he could have given me constructive criticism and maybe some more examples to go on, Thank you Nathan.

Nour enjoyed my smiley faces and found my blog very colourful but gave me her opinion of changing the theme of my blog which was very interesting and useful, both my peers contradicted each other about my referencing and my blog as a whole so I was confused in whose opinion I would take. Thank you Nour

My peer’s feedback was insightful but also it could have been more encouraging, due to this I am feeling unconfident within my blog so I hope my tutor can better reassure me, Overall it was an interesting experience.

Lifelong learning is a journey where individuals learn through life by many aspects for example life experiences. As a community and society we may learn to adapt and study in order to get our qualifications, like me,  Bachelor of Education so I can become a primary school teacher. After working towards my qualification of CSSD, a sterilization nurse and graduating after a two year traineeship where I worked for 5 days and studied at the same time, I decided I needed a different learning journey. I feel that its never too late to learn something you really want to do, as this continuing  education  will contribute to my development, in both “mind , body and soul”. I am hoping that lifelong learning will allow me the creatively and initiative to respond in both formal and informal settings and mange some uncertainties in my life. Through my lifelong leaning journey, I am hoping to forget some problems in my private life and negotiate conflicts which may occur in the future. Learning is never a waste of time, wether it is in a structured learning environment, or constructivist learning where we may be learning through work. Learning enables us to live together as a society and discover different cultures as we adapt to learning in “future work environments”. Delor’s (1996) defined four ‘pillars’ of education for the future, they are: Learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be.

“The emphasis is on learning to learn and the ability to keep learning for a life time”(Life long learning in Australia).

Gaming in the classroom

Gaming in the classroom will intrigue the children and their attention span will grow, it will allow children to intensely concentrate on problem solving and on winning the game. Playing games gives children feelings of joy and satisfaction and the sense of accomplishment. They will feel that they can achieve anything they set their mind on. When children lose a certain level of a game, this becomes a challenge for them and they become self motivated to play that level again and tackle the problem and beat their high score and in doing so, winning the confidence in themselves and they begin to feel that nothing is impossible.

When children play games with their groups of friends and class mates, this builds up bonds and motivation and trust, children are trusting their classmates will play the game till the end and trust that they will follow the game rules. Children will begin to encourage their friends with motivational sayings for example, “Nice shot” or “great thinking”.

However even though gaming in the classroom has its advantages it also has its disadvantages. Society may think that gaming can be a waste of important learning time and that it is not beneficial. “Teachers must determine whether the content of the game is appropriate for specific age groups and whether the games are suitable for the standards-based accountability movement” (Games in education, 2008 Coffey).
